For the third year in a row I’m off to the Alps with my friend Julia for a walk along the Tour de Mont Blanc, the long distance mountain trail that passes through France, Switzerland and Italy.
If we were fit and super keen we’d do the whole trail in one go over 12 days, come rain, shine or snow. But being softies who work full time, we prefer to take our mountain trek at a more leisurely pace, a few days at a time. There may be some pretty basic mountain huts at the top of the mountains but we make sure there’s a decent hotel at the start and finish when we get back down to the valley.

Starting our third year
Year one saw us starting in Les Houches and finishing just above Chamonix, while last year was year two and we continued on to Champex Lac undaunted by a herd of cows with very sharp horns but had to resort to public transport when Julia was hit by altitude sickness and we ran out of time.
This year we start at Champex Lac and walk for 4 days to Courmayeur in Italy. If things go well we’ll be back again next year to continue to complete the whole Tour de Mont Blanc ending at Les Houches where we started.
I’m travelling super-light and not a laptop or wifi in sight so I’m hoping that my iPhone will serve to keep me in touch with the world and if I get any signal I’ll try to send you a few snaps and news on the way, so look out for my Instagram photos posted on my Twitter and Facebook pages with a #TMBwalk tag.
I’m looking forward to telling you my stories from this year’s walk when I get back. In the meantime check out my video diaries from the past two years of walking to get a taste of what we’ll be up to in the mountains.
