Snowdrops at Lytham Hall – in Lancashire, England

I recently attended an event in Lancashire and enjoyed walking through the wooded grounds to admire the gorgeous snowdrops at Lytham Hall. One of the pleasures of springtime in England are the seasonal spring flowers that mark the change from winter into spring and the first of these are the snowdrops.

These miniature white bells are temperamental creatures and love their woodland habitat – they won’t grow just anywhere for anyone, and they are most easily established in your garden if you plant them ‘in the green’ with the moist earth still around the roots.

Lytham Hall was built for the Clifton family in the 1760s and the main house contains some fine portraits and interiors, although it’s only open to the public on certain Sundays and holidays throughout the year or to groups by prior arrangement.

The grounds of Lytham Hall are also open to the public on certain days and there are a number of events including guided walks around the grounds, so do check the website for details if you’re visiting the area.

If you’d like to visit the pleasant coastal town of Lytham, the place I’ve heard recommended as the place to stay, although I’ve not been there myself is The Rooms Boutique B & B.

I drove past Lytham Hall quite recently and I'm sure the fund raising sign was still outside. It's a huge shame because I remember going to Lytham Hall for open days many years ago
