Plava Laguna Resort in Istria, Croatia – family friendly resort hotel by the sea

I’d like to share this short video from a few days I spent in Istria, the northern-most province of Croatia, close to the Italian border at the beautiful resort of Plava Laguna. I was a guest of the Istrian Tourism board and the Plava Laguna company who own a number of hotels, apartments and campsites in the area, and shot this video at the resort we were there.

Holiday by the sea at Plava Laguna Resort

We really enjoyed our family break in Istria in Croatia and although my children would have gladly spent the whole time relaxing by the pool or taking a cooling dip in the sea, I did manage to drag them away to see something of the interesting old coastal and inland towns.

We managed to compromise and found that the resort is ideal for families and couples who want a holiday base by the sea, in beautiful natural surroundings, with lots of activities in the resort and plenty to see when you want to get out and explore.

Hotel Molindrio in Istria, Croatia

Our 4 star Hotel Laguna Molindrio was modern in design and had been completely renovated in the last couple of years with elegant, neutral interiors. The staff were delightful and everything about the hotel was well-run and excellent quality, keeping the busy flow of guests happy and in good humour.

In one direction along the coast and easily reached in 30 minutes on the miniature tourist train, was the town of Poreč, which provided a good day’s sightseeing with a marina and old town to wander around. In the other direction were several other hotels, restaurants, apartment complexes and camp-sites, with many different places to swim and cycle.

If you are active and love sport, then this part of Istria is ideal for you, as many national sports teams come here to train and major tennis tournaments are held here. Just in front of the hotel was a water ski-ing loop and tennis courts and 10 minutes walk away was a sports centre and bicycle hire.

Plava Laguna struck me as a resort that would be ideal for families with children of all ages, for extended family and multi-generational groups or for couples who like to be in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. If you’re looking for nightlife, there are a few nightclubs around, but I’d say the resort is more about the well kept natural surroundings and daytime activities.

Why I recommend Plava Laguna Resort?

I’d highly recommend the Plava Laguna Resort in Croatia, for those who enjoy a resort-style holiday with the opportunity to relax or to be active and a great base for those who want to explore the wonderful food, countryside and cultural heritage that Istria has to offer.
