I saw a woman using an Eyewitness Travel Guide when I was in Bangkok. She gave it to me to thumb through for a few mintues and I was impressed. Like you, I’m not a fan of “top 10′s.” Thanks for the review.

I used to swear by guide books but since the dominance of travel websites and blogs, I haven’t bought one in years. This reminds me of how handy they can be. Lisbon has been on my visit list for awhile, maybe I’ll see it next year!

Thorough review. Like you, I cringe at the idea of a top ten book but it may be better than I first thought. Its glossiness made me nervous as well. I had a flick through the Sydney one in a book shop and they seemed to get most of the obvious places which would be good for a short term visitor with limited time (like yourself with Lisbon).
