If you have a burning desire to travel the world, but find it just too difficult to leave a steady job or a comfortable lifestyle, then you’ll enjoy the new e-book from Anil Polat at Foxnomad.com. In the e-book Anil examines the 7 Major obstacles to Traveling the World, and takes them apart, one by one, to help you overcome them.
As Anil says in his introduction;
“The best way to expose your fears is to expose them to the light; not to keep pushing them deeper into darkness”
This e-book was born out of a series of blog posts, Anil wrote at Foxnomad.com, from which he got a huge response from people who loved the idea of traveling but found too many barriers to actually make it happen. The e-book breaks down these obstacles in more depth and acts a bit like a coaching course to help you overcome them. Like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, you may find after reading this book that you have the sparkly red shoes to take you anywhere you want to go, and that your fears were surmountable after all.
I must admit that I started reading this book in a slightly sceptical frame of mind, as I already travel a fair bit, and manage to combine it with a non-blogging career and family committments, so I wondered what I could learn. However, as I read on, the book began to resonate with me as a way of looking at any obstacles that might prevent you from achieving what you want in life, and breaking them down to make them easier to overcome, in whatever areas of your life those might be.
I also enjoyed the fact that Anil writes in a very readable, concise style, but uses links to other resources and blog posts to expand a point and lead you to places you can get more in depth help on a topic. Here’s a summary of what the 7 Major obstacles to Traveling the World e-book covers;
1. You are Comfortable at your job
Examines how you can prepare yourself mentally for this life-change, save some money to provide a buffer and approach your boss at work with your plans. By making some preparatory steps, already the idea of making the dream a reality comes a step closer.
2. You think it’s too expensive
Examines ways to overcome the money barrier by stopping any unnecessary purchases, raising funds in ways you may not have thought of and making a budget to understand how much money you really need.
3. You don’t know where to go
This is never one I had a problem with, but for some, the choice may be dazzling. Anil offers some practical ways you can narrow your choices by examining the things you enjoy, and doing a little research, maybe plotting things out on a map. Already things are starting to become a bit more real.
4. You’ll miss your family and friends
No need to be in denial about this but the world is getting smaller every day and with current technology it’s a lot easier to stay in touch and even bring your family and friends on your journey with you through a blog. And think of all the new friends out there just waiting to be met.
5. You have kids or will have soon
Children are natural travelers and although there are some extra practical challenges here, they can be overcome. Anil points you to some great resources from other family travelers who’ve found ways round these challenges.
6. You don’t know what your significant other will say
Looks at ways you can involve your partner in the travel plans, so hopefully they’ll be as excited about the trip as you are. There may be ways in which travel creates extra stress in your relationship but it could be enriching in others.
7. You will travel the world … later
In this section Anil pulls apart the mental fears and barriers that will block you - that little devil on the shoulder that embodies your fears and obstacles. Finaly Anil points us to some examples who have successfully hit the road as singles, couples and families and what they’ve experienced. If they can do it, so can you.
I found the 7 Major obstacles to Traveling the World gives both inspiration to make your travel dreams a reality and some excellent practical tips to help you break down each obstacle. On the practical side, I did wonder whether some check lists of action points at the end of each section would have given even more direction to help people take action.
Overall, I’d recommend this book to those who have dreamed about traveling for a while but just not quite got round to doing anything about it, or those who want to start some preparatory steps towards making their travel dreams a reality. If this e-book makes you get up and take even some of the steps towards realising your goal, this book will be a worthwhile purchase. The e-book costs $14.95
