Rome – where the small car is king

May 17, 2008 by

Wandering round the narrow streets of the old Roman quarters like Trastavere and the Jewish Ghetto, I was amazed that the narrow cobbled streets that I’d assumed were pedestrianised actually had cars and motorbikes whizzing up and down them.

This is where the small car is king and the road-hogging people-carrier or SUV is not welcome. They squeeze in to every small spot available outside the old appartment buildings. Luckily my son knows his Fiat cinquecento from his Autobianchi and was out snapping on the streets while we were finishing our Tiramsu in the restaurant one evening.

I think those classic cars look great against the old teracotta buildings don’t you? – a touch of La Dolche Vita.

Friend.. I’m not really much into reading, but in some way I got to read lots of articles on your web site. Its incredible how useful it is for me to take a look at your site very often.

Nice small cars. I personally prefer mini-cars when I travel, and yes, I feel that I’m contributing less to road congestions when I’m riding a small car. I think I will be very welcomed by the roads of Rome then. :)

Small cars are lovely to look at not to mention easy to maneuver through narrow streets and joints. I guess the only disadvantage is when it runs into the highway along with big cars then the driver should be extra careful not to get bumped. I imagine taking the small car into the country side of Rome and Italy and take in the breathtaking scenery.

Classic..! I’m really a big fan of FIAT 500.. The recent release is really stunning.. I’ve watched a video where the amazing features of the new FIAT 500 was presented by one named Scott.. It was really stunning.. I’ll definitely choose this car model as my gift for passing the bar! Wish me luck!

The spate of gasoline price increases makes driving the small car very practical. Easy to navigate through thick traffic and limited parking space. Quite practical to drive these mini cars through Rome.

If you really want to tour Rome without any problems, a small car is the key. Be careful though because you are no match to big cars so be alert at all times. It’s better to be cautious in order to avoid accidents..

Don’t worry Rome, with what’s happening today, the “small car” fever is spreading contagiously all throughout the world. Now everyone is starting to recognize the value and practicality of subcompact cars. For the past year, sales of these small vehicles soared by 200%. So it’s not only in Rome now, other roads in the world are also embracing subcompact roadsters.

With these kinds of roads, a subcompact car is really one of the most viable modes of transportation, second to motorbikes perhaps. I’s a good thing that small cars can still pass through these roads in Rome. In some parts of Greece, you are most likely to bump walls even if you’re driving a subcompact car because some roads there are much more constrained, and only motorcycles can freely navigate the nooks and crannies of the places.

The narrow streets of Rome and parts of Italy puzzles me. Did they build these on purpose so they could make small cars or vice versa?
