Teenage thrills at the Waterpark on Zakynthos - in Greece

The waterpark on Zakynthos (Zante) could be the place for a day out if you’re looking for a change from the mini-golf, the poolside snackbar and the fluorescent pink lilo in the pool. This is not for lovers of the traditional, unspoiled Greece, but if you have older children or just love the adrenalin rush of a waterslide then this could be a good day out for you.

The waterpark is found at Sarakinado and appears to be well organised with 5 or so major slides, a lazy river and a shallow Octopus lagoon for little children. The park is all outdoors and opens from May to October. I’m not a connoisseur of waterparks myself but there was plenty of room for me to relax on a sun-lounger in the shade of an olive tree, trying to ignore the boom, boom, boom of the music. There are several snack bars, but if you want to keep the cost down, there’s no problem you taking in your own snacks and bottled water.

The cost was 18 Euros for over 12s and 14 Euros for under 12s, so it was an expensive treat for a family. There was plenty to keep our teens happy for a few hours, but I think it might be a waste of money for younger children who would be just as happy by the pool or beach. If you don’t have a hire car like we did, there are some local or tourist buses that will take you there - look out for the posters around your resort.

If water parks are your thing, get on your bikini, slap on the factor 50 and enjoy going wet and wild!

P.S. this post was for the service of visitors to Zakynthos with bored teenagers who don’t share their enjoyment of olive groves, authentic tavernas and blue fishing boats.

:) I just thought of the comment you left me on a post about travelling with kids. You left me smiling there. I guess if you have teenagers, the advantage is, if you don’t feel like going to the water park, you can go your own way to enjoy olive groves, authentic tavernas, and fishing boats. :)

Yup - not my favourite thing to visit while on holiday, but just as you have to adjust your holiday activities for toddlers, so it’s the same with teenagers and you have to do some things that they enjoy.

    Visited you from Twitter.

As I slowly became hypothermic hiking in the High Alpine mountain with hail pinging my head and pouring rain soaking me to the core, I fantasized of palm trees swaying in the warm tropical breeze and stark white painted Mediterranean houses.

Since I have three boys, I am always looking for active, fun ideas. Greece is a little too far away at the moment.
