The naming of a new cruise ship is a very special occasion and even more so when there is Royalty involved. In the case of the Royal Princess cruise ship, the day was even more exciting, as the royal godmother was the lovely Duchess of Cambridge, who was only a few weeks away from the birth of her first child. I was lucky enough to be at the naming ceremony for the Royal Princess and captured the moment on video when the champagne bottle smashed on the side of the ship. I hope you enjoy this little video and feel the excitement of the occasion, as I did.
I hope you enjoy the video below of the Duchess of Cambridge naming the Royal Princess cruise ship
As you’ll see in the video, Captain Tony Wheeler hands the Duchess of Cambridge the scissors and Kate cuts the ribbon releasing the champagne bottle, looking quite pleased and relieved when it smashes as planned – I’ve heard of naming ceremonies where they’ve had to have 2 or even 3 tries before the bottle will smash!
Thanks to Princess Cruises for inviting me to share the special gala evening and Royal Princess naming ceremony. You can read my full article about the ceremony – Being Princess for a day – the naming of the Royal Princess by the Ducess of Cambridge
